Meet my friend, Carla Snipes!
Carla is a mom of 3 littles, who she lovingly calls her “cute crew” which I think is the cutest thing ever. She is an early childhood teacher and reading interventionist turned stay at home mama, and the creator of the adorable blog, Little Learner. She is on a mission to encourage parents and guide them through loving and learning with their littles with simple, fun, and engaging educational activities. Regardless if you are a stay at home mom, or a working full time mom, Carla wants to help you invest in your kid’s early education with her amazing resources and activity ideas. They are not time consuming, or activities filled with prep (which I LOVE), but they are intentional and impactful.
In this episode, I chat with Carla all about her favorite Fall activities and traditions!
Carla shares with us one of her favorite activities, paper leaves. She cuts out leaves (she’s offering the leaf template for free to my listeners!), and leaves them around her house for the kids to find. They can decorate them however they want, and then they can be turned into a game or a cute piece of Fall decor for your home. We talked about how you can also put an educational spin on the leaves by turning it into a scavenger hunt for letters, spelling some simple sight words, or even for color recognition. I love that her ideas are so simple, but they allow freedom to make them your own for what you and your kiddo wants to take on. Personally, I would do some letter and spelling practice with Evie and then have Hudson find colors or sort colors into piles since those are the skills each of them are really into right now!
Carla also shared her special family tradition of having a Family Fall Festival, which I thought was absolutely brilliant and I will be doing immediately! This is the cutest tradition! You can invite neighbors or friends for a play date, or just keep it low-key as a family, but either way, it is a no-stress celebration with the focus on making memories. Decor that the kids help make (bring out those leaves!), a fun snack like apples and caramel dip, a Fall movie or activity, pumpkin decorating…whatever you want and love, do! You can also use Carla’s Play and Learn Calendars for some fun activity ideas!
Speaking of the Play and Learn Calendars…I have to say…I am SO impressed by these. This year is really the first year that I’ve had daily one on one time with Hudson since last year when Evie was at school he napped the whole time! I purchased the Fall Play and Learn Calendar Bundle and I am so glad I did! It comes with 3 themes: apples, pumpkins, and happy helpers (community helpers). It has a calendar of activity ideas, then TONS of resources and other supporting printables to execute them at home. Literally, she has done ALL the work for you. Hudson and I have been having a blast with the Happy Helpers Calendar! It’s been really great to have something intentional to do with him other than play Legos for the 100th time, and some of the activities that are too hard for him right now, Evie has been having fun doing! She loves tracing themed words or doing some of the letter practice, while he is having a lot of fun with the activities, snack, books and art. I urge you to check them out. They are beautifully illustrated and Carla is so thoughtful when creating them. I can’t recommend them enough!
Free printable from Carla with Little Learner! These paper leaves offer a ton of activity time for your littles! They can decorate them however they want, write letters or numbers on them for some simple early literacy or math practice, sort them by color, string them into a garland, hide them and have their sibling find them scavenger hunt style. So.many.possibilities.
My FAVORITE kind of activity!
