Meet Adventure Mom, Nikki!
Nikki is a mama to two little wild ones, and married to an even wilder man. He is an enneagram seven, so adventure is pretty much the center of their amazing marriage. She is a risk taker who loves to challenge herself and plan out the risks and adventures that come with her journey as a travel blogger.
Originally from Nebraska, Nikki always knew her heart belonged at the beach and yearned to travel. She took her collegiate career to Michigan State where she played volleyball which opened up many opportunities to travel and there realized that the warmer climate was where she needed to be.
Fast forward a few years she met her now husband, Cory and on a whim they chose to move to Key West, Florida. Their move to Key West was the start of many adventures together that lead to their traveling lifestyle.
Since being together Nikki and Cory have lived in 12 cities on three different islands. One of their biggest adventures being that they sold all of their things, quit their jobs and set sail in Puerto Rico. They also added two adventure loving kiddos Evelyn who is 5 and Kai who is 3, and let’s just say adventure runs in their blood because they love it more than mom and dad!
This adventure loving family now resides in Seattle where they enjoy the magical summers, and what brought them there is the most interesting part of their journey…A hurricane chased them out of Puerto Rico and with no Plan B in mind this became theirs.
As you can imagine given the world’s state that last year the traveling restrictions have delayed their adventures, but they are making the most of it. Nikki talks about how the kids have turned their living room into a travel pad.
She explains “Sometimes the living room is the ocean floor and the kids use their imagination to snorkel around. Other days we build obstacle courses in our backyard to live out our adventures.” They also created many memories camping in the Pacific Northwest as you can imagine with magical summers it was amazing.
With Nikki’s traveling lifestyle came struggles. One of which was navigating how to be a stay at home mom of two little while sailing the open water. Her husband spent much of their days traveling working on their boat while she spent her days taking care of the kids, and those responsibilities were something she hadn’t been used to.
Living a life of travel may seem glamorous to many, but Nikki shares how that is the farthest from the truth. Instead it was some of the most challenging times and it resulted in a lot of overwhelm.
Although sailing is not in Nikki’s near future, she knows the future will bring a lot of adventure for their family. The most important thing for her is being present and purposeful with the people she loves.
The pause on traveling and the adventures of motherhood have led Nikki to start her blog and share all the Harrington’s family adventures along with the good, bad and ugly moments of motherhood. Most importantly sharing the failures that come with being a mom and simply being human because opening the dialogue has allowed for so much growth!
