Dipping Your Toe Into Natural Skin Care
Where should we start? It can be super daunting and overwhelming because things say they are “natural” or “clean” and turns out they are horrible for you! We also can easily get stuck in our ways and just buy the same thing we always buy because it’s what we’re used to. Time to break some habits, friend!
Bethany suggests the first switch be deodorant. Normal deodorant is one of the most toxic things you can put on your body, on one of the most susceptible areas, so making the switch is easy and beneficial!
Did you know sweat is actually a good thing? It’s healthy to sweat. We need that detoxification from our body. Deodorant with aluminum stop our ability to sweat. So we don’t have that sweaty feeling, but the toxins we are putting in…don’t have anywhere to go. So yikes.
I recommend Primally Pure’s charcoal deodorant best, but also really like the Tea Tree!
Greenwashing
Isn’t it infuriating that products meant for our body, in particular our skin which is our largest organ, are so often filled with toxic chemicals. SO many products we use and have used for years are unsafe, even if they claim to be natural, organic or clean. This is called greenwashing…and it makes things really freaking confusing!
Do a quick search on an apps that tell you the toxic level of products. I am slowly trying to swap out my common products out for true green ones like Primally Pure. Download Think Dirty or EWG Healthy Living. You can scan a product’s barcode, or just type in the name and the full breakdown will pop up with which ingredients to steer clear from and all that. Super helpful!
When in doubt, try to follow food rules- if we can’t read whats in it, chances are we don’t want it inside of our bodies. Skincare or household products are the same- I don’t want to put it on my body (or my kids!) if I have no clue what is inside.
